Hi! My name is Karin Poiesz, also known as Karin Carolina. I’m an illustrator and visual storyteller based in the Netherlands.
I create poetic and whimsical illustrations ,often inspired by nature, silence, and hidden strength. My work includes drawings for children’s books, small editorial projects, and personal stories, often made in Procreate. I love creating from the heart, with care and attention.

My background
After studying Illustration & Visual Design at the C.A.B.K. Art Academy, I completed a two-year course in Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing. After my studies, I worked at a design collective and in advertising, where I gained experience in illustration, graphic design, and visual communication.
My work blends traditional and digital techniques — from QuarkXPress and InDesign to Photoshop, Illustrator, and now Procreate. I build my illustrations layer by layer, with care and attention, much like hand drawing. This gives each image its own character and atmosphere.
Tolhuisje
In addition to my work as an illustrator, I also welcome visitors to a unique and peaceful place in Frisia (Friesland):
Tolhuisje Zwette is a small historical resting spot for cyclists and walkers, located along the canal just outside Sneek.
Once a place where horses rested during the days of the horse-drawn barge (trekschuit), it has now become a quiet spot to pause, reflect, or read a book from our little free library.
